American-Palestinian artist Lina made history as the first Arab to win Israel’s version of The Voice in 2012. Since, Lina has captivated audiences leading to her being selected as the opening act for Queen + Adam Lambert in September 2016. We spoke to Lina following the release of single “Can’t Keep Falling”.
I do it LINA style.
2016 - what will you look back on most fondly from the year?
I think it was the best year of my life. Yeah it definitely was. So many things happened that year- I was signed internationally, my two first singles reached top 10 on Music Week Chart, supported Queen+Adam Lambert, I’ve got the support of Alicia Keys on every social media platform. Amazing eh? Can’t believe it still.
Did you make any new year’s resolutions?
Of course. My first and my every new year’s/birthday resolution is to be happy. Being happy means more music, more hard work, more love, more adventures, performing, writing, composing, expressing myself, conquer new goals, always get better that I was before, and having my family and friends around me.
What was the biggest lesson you learnt in 2016 so far?
Be yourself no matter what. Love who and what you are.
What was the musical highlight of 2016?
Having a crowd of 57,000 people singing along with me while supporting Queen + Adam Lambert.
Who are you excited to hear from in 2017?
You might not believe me, but I’m most excited about the messages I receive from fans and supporters all over the world. That’s the most amazing feeling. people’s support is the best thing an artist can have, so I’m looking forward to hearing from more and more people specially from the UK.
Tell us about the record you have just released…
It’s called Can’t Keep Falling, and it’s one of my favorite songs on the album. I co-wrote it with the magical Maegan Cottone and Knighstarr - two of the most talented people I’ve got to meet and work with, it was such a privilege. It’s such a great song, filled with super positive vibes, and I promise you won’t be able to get it out of your head!
If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?
Oh man, I’m a big dreamer so my three artists would be Adele, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift.
If the record were an animal, what animal would it be?
I believe it would be a butterfly. When I first started working on the record I had no idea what I was getting into. I grew so much while working on that record- both professionally, and personally.
Define your sound in five words…
I do it LINA style.
If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?
It’s a tough one. Ed Sheeran. For sure.
If you could have written one song by another artist, what would it be?
“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. Best song ever.
Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?
Me, myself and I 😝 I don’t think I can find another American/Palestinian/Israeli citizen singer that went through all I went through.
Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…
Well, you know Waze? There’s only one Arabic voice on it and it’s mine! The best part is that in Saudi Arabia women aren’t allowed to drive, while I order men how to drive. Feminism is a bitch, right?
