UK’s first queer camping festival takes off this summer

Queer clubbing instituion Adonis will debut a camping festival this summer in a UK first.

Runway will take the space vacated by Glastonbury this June for a three-day festival at a disused runway at a working airport in the South of England.

The epicentre of the 5,000 capacity event will be 'Runway Boulevard'- a fantasy street taking inspiration from the once-thriving gay neighbourhoods of every major world city - think 1970s Castro, 1980s Soho, or 1990s WeHo.

Runway’s ultimate ambition is to offer an enclave for all manner of LGTBQ+ clubbers, gig-goers and campdwellers in a time where spaces for queer revelry feels increasingly in decline putting diversity, creativity and freedom at the forefront of their ethos.

The first wave of acts confirmed are Roza Terenzi, Aurora Halal, BASHKKA, Cormac, Clarisa Kimskii, Gabrielle Kwarteng, Leonce, LYDO, Karim Olen Ash, Miss Twink USA, OMOLOKO, OK Williams, and Peach.

Adonis residents Seb Odyssey, Marie Malarie, Byron Yeates, Hannah Holland, Gideön, and Grace Sands will join them.

Runway and Adonis founder Shay Malt said: "The idea of doing a festival appeals to me because it's creating a whole world that we're not actually able to do in a club.

"We’re creating a full fantasy, showcasing and collaborating with queer talent to build something from start to finish, as opposed to being confined by the venues that we work with."

Runway will run from Friday, June 26th to Sunday, June 28th.
