This year's Sónar+D will emphasise the human in an increasingly automated world.
The 14th edition of will run from Thursday, June 18th tp Friday, June 19th at a new home of Llotja de Mar in the centre of Barcelona.
The programme will include talks, panels, workshops, performances, exhibitions, community takeovers, and interactive installations.
The three themes of Sonar+D will be ‘AI & Music’ looking at the world as it moves towards a post-AI reality; ‘Beyond the Screen’ exploring how to inject physicality and humanity into digital creations; and ‘Digital Gardens and Dark Forests’ investigating alternative futures for the current, commercially-dominated model of the internet.
Speakers confirmed include New Zealand brand consultant Eugene Healey, writer and entrepreneur Yancey Strickler, digital artist niceaunties, new media artist who works with robotics Mónica Rikić, AV artist Daito Manabe in conversation with Google DeepMind, writer and technologist Mindy Seu, and Catalan artist and researcher Joana Moll.
The workshops programme features designer and web artist Chia Amisola, artist collective Keiken, online community 0xSalon, and visual artists desilence.
Performances will come from sound artist Evicshen, performance artist Fitnesss and contemporary dancer Riusforza, experimental producer Shoeg, music hacker duo dadabots, and jazz pianist Ignasi Terraza performing a duet with an AI system developed by UPC researcher Philippe Salembier.
A showcase by Arts Korea Lab featuring a selection of works by South Korean artists that look to the future creative technology; plus Belgian studio Superbe’s sonic, visual and kinetic installation From0; and Brooklyn-based creative studio Volvox Labs’ Astral Twin.
More exhibitions and installations will be announced soon, including two at Fira Gran Via, the first time Sónar+D appears at Sónar’s biggest venue.
