Autumn Knight, Shōhei Imamura, Nicolás Pereda, Issy Wood, Alabaster DePlume, L’Rain at the ICA this autumn
Autumn Knight’s first major UK exhibition, cinema retrospectives of Shōhei Imamura and Nicolás Pereda, a new programme of 360° performances in ‘In the Round’, and the fourth edition of the Frieze × ICA Artists’ Film Programme are coming to London's Institute of Contempoary Arts this autumn.
Film, live music, talks, and events have also been revealed.From today (Tuesday, September 29th) until Sunday, November 29, Autumn Knight's I Can’t Complain is a new installation and audio commission with recent video work.
The exhibition continues will also see five performances in the Lower Gallery: three solo performances by Knight, a solo by Samra Mayanja in response to the installation, and a live event developed by Knight in collaboration with the performers Michelangelo Miccolis and nick von kleist.
The Lower Depths: The Cinema of Shōhei Imamura will be presented from Thursday, October 22nd to Sunday, December 13th as part of the Long Takes strand.
From Tuesday, November 10th to Thursday, December 17th Between the Lines: Films by Nicolás Pereda will be a first UK retrospective of the director, exploring a practice in which fiction and documentary, performance and everyday life repeatedly intersect.
New and under-seen independent cinema will also be screened at the ICA with UK premieres of Ramiro Sonzini and Ezequiel Salinas’ The Night Is Fading Away, Nicolás Pereda’s Everything Else Is Noise, Bingham Bryant’s Mirage and Mathilde Girard’s Recherche Médée, alongside Angela Schanelec’s My Wife Cries.
The ICA will host screening from festival partners such as BFI London Film Festival, London Korean Film Festival, London Palestine Film Festival, Doc’n Roll Film Festival, Fashion in Film Festival, Armenian Film Festival, and London Latino Film Festival.
From Thursday, October 8th to Friday, October 31st, In the Round returns with artists such as Gilla Band, Issy Wood, L’Rain, Alabaster DePlume, HYD, Tara Clerkin Trio, PVA and Discovery Zone.
Duet Emmo, a collaboration between Mute founder Daniel Miller, and Edvard Graham Lewis and B.C. Gilbert from Wire, and WACK × lovemusic bringing Jennifer Walshe and Neil Luck together with Strasbourg-based collective lovemusic will be part of the programme.
Also performing will be Nosaj Thing alongside Daito Manabe. Moor Mother, Goat (jp), Horse Lords, Gold Panda, Kiss Facility, Faux Real, Nirosta Steel, Olof Dreijer and the Robocobra Quartet.
A three-day partnership with Poland’s Unsound festival closes November; headline shows from Planningtorock, TYGAPAW and Nightbus follow in December.
Talks and events in autumn will cover conversations around photography, publishing, care, politics and cultural production involving Sara Ahmed, Hanna Moon, Charlotte Cotton, Isabella Burley, Benoît Loiseau, and Amelia Abraham.
