Joana Galego and Qian Zhong exhibitions coming to Soho Revue

Portuguese artist Joana Galego and Chinese painter Qian Zhong will be the subjects of two solo exhibitions at Soho Revue from Thursday, September 17th to Saturday, October 31st.

Previous Revue Studio resident Zhong presents a collection of new paintings in Almost Body, looking closely at the body in its shifting state.

Moving bodies dance and weave across the canvases, merging into one another through repeated brushstrokes that build on the linen, creating movement from the layered textures.

Nightlife and performance are part of the visual world through which Zhong can create works that speak to the body as a condition rather than an object.

Joana Galego presents Different Ways of Staying, a new body of work that uses memory as a pivotal tool with which to unpick the threads of belonging.

Galego’s paintings are saturated with memories of her birthplace of Cascais in Portugal.

She captures the sun’s warmth against sleeping skin, dappled by pine branches, the dark waves of the Atlantic rolling in across the canvas, sounds of life from the pavement on a late summer evening.

The exhibition champions the concept that there is no “right way” of living, just “your way”.
