Dream-folk band Something Sleeps highlight historical protests to the soundtrack of a 300-year old song in the video for the first single from their forthcoming new album.
One of zap! bang! Magazine's favourite acts will release their new album Home in spring 2027, and the first taste of what's to come is 'Rocks of Bawn'.
The original Irish folk song is said to refer to the displacement of native Irish farmers from their traditional lands during the reign of Oliver Cromwell.
In the video, each of the band members holds a placard with footage of a different protest projected onto it: a march against the lack of affordable housing in Lewisham; the protests against Airbnbs and the housing crisis in the Canary Islands; Turkish Cypriots being bussed away from their homes after the partition of Cyprus; and Pride marches because home doesn't always feel safe when you're LGBTQ+
